India dominated Day 1 of the fifth Test match which is also a dead rubber as the hosts have already clinched the series 3-1. At the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Thursday (March 7), India skittled out Ben Stokes and Co. for 218 runs and started batting in their first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma opened the innings, stitching a decent 104-run partnership between them. Jaiswal, who has scored two double centuries in the series already was playing fearlessly again from the word go.

With three sixes and five boundaries, Jaiswal played just 58 balls to score 57 runs at a strike rate of 98.28. If it wasn’t for Shoaib Bashir, Jaiswal would have ended up smashing another ton.

On the fourth delivery of the 21st over, Bashir sent Jaiswal packing when the latter stepped down the track to play the delivery. But the ball went past him to keeper Ben Foakes who did not waste any time to disturb the stumps, ending Jaiswal’s innings.

Aggression was clearly visible on Bashir’s face as he knew the value of the 22-year-old’s wicket. Fans noticed the fiery look on his face and so the video of the dismissal eventually started doing rounds on X (formerly Twitter).

Yashasvi Jaiswal creates history for India

Yashasvi Jaiswal is in red-hot form in Test cricket right now. As mentioned, he and Rohit Sharma gave a quick start to India’s first innings in this Test match.

And though the 22-year-old could not score another hundred, he scripted history by becoming the fastest to complete 1000 runs in the format as an Indian batter. He achieved the feat in just nine matches. Cheteshwar Pujara and Sunil Gavaskar completed the runs in 11 matches.

Jaiswal also surpassed Virat Kohli to register the most runs against England in the format. Kohli had scored 655 runs against England back in 2016.
