While Napoli are linked with a possible swoop, La Gazzetta dello Sport insist Gian Piero Gasperini is ready to extend his Atalanta contract to 2026 for a full decade.

The coach has been mentioned by Sky Sport Italia as one of the candidates for the Partenopei next season, but with a large caveat that it’s not clear whether Atalanta would let him go, or indeed if the veteran would be prepared to leave.

According to the latest report from the Gazzetta dello Sport, Gasperini is instead ready to further extend his current deal with the Bergamo boys to June 2026.

The 66-year-old took charge in June 2016, so this would make it a complete decade at the same club, something that is practically unheard of in Italian football.

Gasperini era

Gasperini’s current contract runs to June 2025, but all parties are more than happy with the way he has run the squad, especially after reaching the Coppa Italia Final and the Europa League semi-final.

La Dea are also still in the running for a top five Serie A finish, which would qualify them for the Champions League next season.

Although he has never won a trophy, Gasperini oversaw 378 competitive Atalanta matches, taking them into the Champions League for the first time in their history.
